My name is Margot Toh-kou (東虹) Olejniczak. I am a Swiss-Polish artist and teacher of Japanese ink painting in Switzerland, Poland and Germany. I received my Japanese name Toh-kou (東虹) from my master Tohun Kobayashi in 2021.
In my paintings I use very traditional techniques that have been passed down from master to master for hundreds of years - at the highest level - and that have never been fully united in books. Maintaining the treasure of this technical wealth is very important to me.
By combining this ancient style with a modern approach and adding various available tools, I can achieve a unique style. My artistic research also focuses on creating a new concept of sumi-e painting by introducing contemporary means of expression. Above all, the pure spirit and mindfulness shape my artistic landscape and vision of the world.

Thanks to my numerous trips to Japan, I discovered the art and philosophy of ink painting. I have been studying Sumi-e in Tokyo since 2002 with Japanese senseis and since 2012 in the studio of the famous master Tohun Kobayashi.
Thanks to intensive practice, my knowledge, inner control, discipline and imagination are constantly developing.
In 2014, I received the diploma of instructor of Japanese Sumi-e painting from The Sumie Japan Association.
I teach in Regensberg (Switzerland), at the Manggha Japanese culture center in Krakow, in Warsaw (Poland) and at the Ekō House in Düsseldorf (Germany).
I regularly take part in group and individual exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Japan.
In 2016, I received a special prize for my work at the Tokyo National Art Center, followed by a special prize at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum during Le Salon Blanc - the international exhibition of contemporary art.
Since 2016, I have also been a member of the art group at Noho M55 Gallery in New York, USA and the International Sumi-e Friendship Association of Japan.
In August 2017, I received the International Best Award in Japanese art, calligraphy and painting exhibition 2017 in Gunma, Japan.
Since this event, I have received other awards in Japan.
In 2019, I was invited to be a member of the jury of The Asia Creation Exhibition in Tokyo National Center, Japan.
In January 2020, I received the Special Award of Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for my 3 works and the promotion of Japanese culture and painting outside Japan (International Exhibition Art for All, The National Art Center, Tokyo, Japan).
I am a member of the International Association of Sumi-e. Japan.
In 2021, I received my official Japanese artist name, which was chosen by my master Tohun Kobayashi.
